Grammy Award winner and Musical America 2022 Conductor of the Year Teddy Abrams brings together works by Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky, Sarah Kirkland Snider, and Kennedy Center Honoree Michael Tilson Thomas. Called a voice for this historic moment (The Washington Post), bass-baritone Will Liverman joins the orchestra for the world premiere of Sniders Urge, an NSO co-commission setting texts by poet Tracy K. Smith. Stravinskys Symphonies of Wind Instruments distills music to spare, haunting phrases, while Thomas Street Song draws on the rhythms and sounds of the city. Tchaikovskys Serenade for Strings brings the evening to a warm and celebratory close.
